How This Works

This blog is dedicated to tracking Barack Obama’s effectiveness as an antidote to the disastrous presidency of Bush. Every item on the list represents a Bush policy hated by alert Americans on the left and the right. Every item on the list is within the power of the executive office to change. It is my opinion that each one is an impeachable offense.

In 2006, President Bush and the entire Republican agenda around him was already heavily discredited, and in response to ruinous Republican rule, a Democratic majority was elected to Congress. Between then and the end of 2008, the Democratic Congress was completely impotent in halting the Bush regime. In many cases, they didn’t even try. Executive power grew to dictatorial proportions, expanding upon a disturbing decades-long trend.

But now, the Democrats have a commanding and growing lead in the legislature, and on January 20 they will control the executive office. There is now nothing standing in their way if the Democrats truly wish to reverse the most criminal of Bush’s policies.

I have composed a short list of the worst abuses of power by the Bush administration. There are many other crimes of the Bush regime, but a reversal of even half of the items on this list — without any new criminal policies — would be reason enough to call Barack Obama a good president.

Since all of the points on the list are easily within the domain of the modern presidency to fix, and all would be illegal or immoral to continue, it would be cause for serious concern if Barack Obama does not address several, if not all, of them within his first 100 days in office. Nevertheless, this blog will continue as long as Obama is President of the United States.

If Barack Obama does not address these issues, it is incumbent upon those who hailed him as America’s savior to face their mistake and work to rectify it, instead of making apologies and excuses the way conservatives did for Bush.
